North Korea: How to Slay A Monster
Posted by Alexander The Cosmic on June 8, 2009Story
A 12 year sentence of had labor in a North Korean prison has been handed out for 2 U.S. journalists, convicted for the illegal border crossing between China and North Korea. Sweden is the U.S. representative in North Korea, and they in fact confirmed that the reports were accurate.
U.S. State Department spokesman, Ian Kelley, expressed concern on behalf of the White House and also mentioned their desire to negotiate their release on humanitarian grounds. It is reported that President Barack Obama was informed of the sentences and also expressed deep concern.
One of the options being considered is sending former Vice President Al Gore to North Korea to attempt to facilitate the journalists’ release, considering they work for Current TV, a venture of his. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is another option, and the white house is well aware of both of these options.
Commentary
How much longer are we going to put up with the nonsense coming from this repressive nation? They, like Iran, are really pushing our buttons by remaining defiant despite knowing that their actions have little support from the free world.
Whether you send Gore or Richardson, I believe that North Korea is a nation with close minded leaders that is unwilling to change and that we must act decisively, imposing strict measures to deal with their rebellion. They aspire to be a nuclear power, something which we must vehemently resist, acting without conscience while they commit acts that violate humanitarian practices.
Let’s let them know that we will not tolerate them holding our innocent citizens captive and that we demand their release or they will have to deal with the consequences. It is time for a stiff stance against these international thugs.
The world collectively needs to come together and decry the actions of this repressive government, putting immense pressure on them to succumb to worldwide demands. We cannot allow North Korea to get away with this. Justice must prevail.
