Deadly Swine Flu: Who Will Save Us?
Posted by Alexander The Cosmic on April 25, 2009Story:
The World Health Organization has a new concern. They are worried about a new potential pandemic that has the ability to rapidly spread.
Their concern is with the swine flu, which has already killed dozens in Mexico and has infected a handful of people in the United States, all of whom have recovered.
The problem is that when tested by experts, various samples from the virus found in Mexico matched several of the samples tested in the United States.
The World Health Organization is seriously considering raising its level of alert to the highest available one, signaling the true danger of a pandemic.
In Mexico City, drastic measures are being implemented, as schools are being closed and sports events are being played without audiences.
It is stated that swine flu is typically caused by direct contact with pigs and is rare for it to be transmitted human to human, though it does happen.
The swine virus has proved to be stubborn, some of it resisting modern drugs. Travel alerts are being issued for those that have plans to travel to Mexico.
Commentary:
Sad, but when it comes to pandemics, it is only a matter of time before history repeats itself.
Who will fall victim to the next pandemic? Will it be me, you, one of our loved ones? It is the risk of the human existence.
The scientific community must be praised for their advances, yet you can’t help but wonder if they are ants dealing with elephants.
Amazing but something so microscopic has the potential to wipe out a large portion of the human race.
Yet another reason why we must treasure every moment we reside over this earth, for in a second it could all be taken away.
I cross my fingers and hope that the brightest minds from the World Health Organization can come together and defeat this new beast.
This virus must not be allowed to spread, and we must do everything we can to stop it.
May we be blessed as a society and may the day come when we find the answers to what ails us and seeks to destroy us. Only science can save us now.
